The warm humming sounds of glass bowls, played by a trained yoga teacher, fill the room with vibration. You are in the present moment, without even having to try. Everything feels like a gentle glow.
If you’ve never tried a soundbath, you may be surprised by how much you enjoy it. We all know that mindfulness improves our state of being, but it’s easier said than done. Sometimes as soon as you close your eyes and take a deep breath – All your thoughts come rushing in!
This is why soundbaths are such an accessible experience of mediation, because all you have to do is listen.
The History & Science Of Soundbath
For thousands of years many cultures have used music and sound for therapeutic effect. The ancient Greeks used sound vibration to improve sleep and calm the mind, and the ‘soundbath’ itself, originated over two thousand years ago in Tibet.
In the 19th Century, the benefits of soundbaths were proven by studies that showed the power of music to decrease blood pressure and pulse rate and support the parasympathetic nervous system.
Pretty incredible stuff!
Soundbaths at Upstate
At Upstate we offer Yin + Soundbath.
Your class starts with soft movements. Yoga postures are all based low on the mat and are held for enough time to soften and stretch the body.
In your final resting pose (savasana), you melt into the mat for your soundbath experience. It’s not too short, not too long. Just the perfect amount of time to refresh yourself completely.
