An Upstate educator assisting a student on the reformer

Getting started

I’m new to Pilates. Is this course for me?+

Absolutely! Whether you’ve never done Pilates or already know your Teaser from your Hundreds, we’ll take you from the basics to expert in no time.

What do I need to get started?+

Just your excitement for Pilates! No experience required. Come ready to learn and we’ll handle the rest.

Can I take individual courses?+

For sure! Go for the full combo of Reformer + Mat, or choose whichever course fits your Pilates passion.

Does the course cover anatomy and physiology?+

Yes, and we make it engaging! You’ll learn the basics of anatomy and physiology, focused on how it applies directly to Pilates movement and teaching.

Online course

How long do I have to complete the online course?+

You’ll have up to 8 months to work through the 80 hours of content at your own pace.

Do I have to attend anything in person?+

Nope. The online course is 100% online and self-paced.

Do I need a reformer for the online Reformer course?+

You’ll need access to a reformer to complete the Reformer certification, via a local studio, gym or hire.

How will I be supported online?+

You get 1:1 mentor sessions with direct educator access, monthly workshops and live Q+As, a private student community, and assessment support the whole way through.

In-person course

How long does it take to get certified?+

In just a few months! You’ll have 6 weeks to complete your online modules (~20 hours), 6 months to complete your logbook hours, and then your face-to-face training. Logbook: Mat or Reformer = 10 hours observing, 30 practice teaching, 30 self-practice; Mat + Reformer = 20 / 60 / 60.

How much time do I need to commit?+

~20 hours of online learning before your face-to-face sessions. The Reformer + Mat course is 10 days of in-person training over four weekends, or two full weeks; individual courses take half that. Then 6 months to complete your logbook.

How will Upstate support me?+

Our expert instructors and step-by-step curriculum make sure you feel supported every step of the way. In-person participants also get a WhatsApp channel to ask questions and chat with classmates.

Do I need a Reformer for training?+

Nope! We provide all the gear you’ll need. From mats to reformers and props, we’ve got you covered.

Can my current Pilates classes count toward my hours?+

Absolutely! If you’re already hitting the studio 1 month before your training, we’ll count those hours toward your training.

Accreditation + certification

Is the course accredited?+

You bet! Fully accredited through AUSactive with 20 CECs, which means your certification is recognised across the fitness industry, so you’re good to go in studios, gyms or your own private classes.

How do I earn my certification?+

Complete your training, log your practice hours and pass a practical assessment. We’ll be supporting you the whole way. You’ll have the real-world experience and knowledge to confidently start teaching after graduation.

What certification do I get?+

You’ll be certified to teach Reformer, Mat, or both, opening up opportunities in studios, gyms or privately.

Do I need government accreditation to teach?+

Nope! Your Upstate certification has you covered, but check local rules just to be sure.

What do I need to be a Pilates instructor?+

A recognised training qualification, current first aid certification and professional insurance. It’s also a good idea to join a body like Pilates Association Australia (PAA) or AUSactive.
